It had been 108 years since the Chicago Cubs last won Major League Baseball's most coveted crown. Wednesday night, those dreams became reality as the Cubs won 8-7 in extra innings and ignited the sports world.
"Let's talk baseball," Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said to start his Thursday afternoon press conference at Virginia Mason Athletic Center. "How about that game, huh? Wow. What a great event that was. It was really something."
Carroll added that there was "something to learn" from the primetime event.
"I wish we could have heard more from the Indians' players because what I was so impressed with was just the makeup of those guys on that team," Carroll said. "All the way across the board they're just such solid, competitive, team-oriented, tough guys with a lot of leadership and respect for kind of the older guys. The whole thing with [Chicago Cubs catcher David] Ross, I just thought that was an extraordinary illustration of a great team and [Cubs] coach [Joe] Maddon did a fantastic job with those guys. Like I said, I wish I could have heard from the Indians, because I'm sure they were the same to get that far, to play like they've played all year long.
"It was something for our guys to see and witness, and we're grateful for that."
