Both during and following his standout career on the football field, Marshawn Lynch has always demonstrated that his interests and talents extend beyond the field.
And after dabbling in acting and reality TV in recent years, Lynch had his biggest on-screen role to date in the 2023 film "Bottoms," a teen comedy in which the Seahawks Legend plays a teacher, Mr. G, who heads up a fight club run by two students.
For his performance, which earned strong reviews, calling him "utterly delightful," Lynch is one of five nominees for Best Breakthrough Performance at the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards. Winners will be announced at the Film Independent Spirit Awards on Sunday, February 25, 2024.
For Lynch, having a role in 'Bottoms,' which director Emma Seligman calls a “queer and female driven” teen comedy, was a chance to not only show off his comedic chops, but also to help make right a wrong from his teenage years, as he explained in an interview promoting the film.
"This was a good opportunity for me, because when I was in high school, my sister had came out as being a lesbian," Lynch said. "I did not handle it right. As a 16-year-old boy, I didn't handle it the way that I feel I probably should have. So I told her it was giving me an opportunity to correct my wrongs. To rewrite one of my mistakes."
