Seahawks general manager John Schneider has been known to say that the process of building a roster "never stops," so it hardly comes as a surprise that, one day after teams around the league cut their rosters down to 53 players, the Seahawks were active on the waiver wire.
After setting their initial 53-man roster Saturday, the Seahawks claimed a pair of players Sunday, adding former Raiders guard Jordan Simmons, and defensive back Simeon Thomas, who was drafted by the Cleveland Browns earlier this year.
To make room on the 53-man roster, guard Rees Odhiambo and defensive end Branden Jackson were waived.
Thomas, a sixth-round pick out of Louisiana-Lafayette, is listed at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds and noted that he has 35-inch arms in an interview with clevelandbrowns.com, a trait the Seahawks love in cornerbacks. While primarily a cornerback, Thomas also played some safety in college, so his versatility could also be an asset.
Simmons, 24, went undrafted out of USC last year before signing with the Raiders. The 6-foot-3, 339-pound Simmons spent last season on Oakland's practice squad.
Odhiambo, a third-round pick in 2016, started 15 games over the past two seasons, including seven at left tackle last year before Seattle added Duane Brown in a mid-season trade. Jackson, who came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2016, joined the Seahawks' practice squad last season, then was later promoted to the 53-man roster. He appeared in 12 games last season, recording 11 tackles and half a sack.
A pair of players waived by the Seahawks Saturday quickly found new homes. Receiver Amara Darboh, a 2017 third-round pick, was claimed by the New England Patriots, and linebacker D.J. Alexander was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles.
