Seahawks Announce Week Five CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week

SEATTLE and RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) and KIRO Radio announced Jose Gandara of Shorewood High School as week five CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week. Jose will be recognized on the field at CenturyLink Field during the November 4 game vs. the Los Angeles Chargers.

Jose, a senior at Shorewood High School was selected Athlete of the Week based on his leadership through athletics, academics and community action. Jose maintains a 4.0 GPA and is enrolled in multiple AP courses. At Shorewood High, Jose is a strong advocate for school spirit. He is both a cheerleader and a "yell leader," encouraging student participation and inclusion at extracurricular events at school. Jose is also captain of his cross-country team and is described by his coach as the type of athlete who is a natural leader and inclusive of all teammates. This past summer, he helped organize a community team-building retreat focused on bonding and goal setting. Within the community, Jose volunteers for local government representatives and Young Life, a community outreach organization dedicating to bringing youth together. This past summer, he spent a month serving on work crew at Young Life Camp. After graduation Jose hopes to study public policy at Stanford University.

Each student athlete will be recognized at his or her school in front of families, peers and teachers, as well as at a Seahawks game. Each winner will also receive a $1,000 grant to their school's Athletic Department from the Seahawks along with media recognition, tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks game, a customized football, and a customized 2018 Seahawks jersey. A total of $10,000 will be awarded to high schools over the course of the season.
