SEATTLE, June 8, 2022 – NFL FLAG and the Seattle Seahawks have teamed up to reimagine youth flag football in the state of Washington with the debut of the Seattle Seahawks Flag Football League.

The league will continue the mission of Russell Wilson NFL FLAG to grow youth participation in flag football and offer a one-of-a kind flag football experience for boys and girls ages 4-14 in the Seattle area. Flag football is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, with regular participation of more than 3 million youth and adults each year. The Seahawks Flag Football League will offer a convenient practice-before-game format allowing athletes to learn new skills and implement them immediately after during league play.

"The Seahawks are thrilled to partner with NFL FLAG to launch this new league, which will make flag football programs even more accessible to all youth in our community," said Jeff Richards, Seahawks Vice President of Marketing and Community Engagement. "Flag football is the perfect way for young athletes of all ages and abilities to come together to play the game in a fun and interactive way, and we are excited to use our platform to support the growth of football programs for girls and boys across our region for years to come."

Registration for the fall season is now open through July 31, with league play hosted exclusively on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The season includes seven weeks of play and is perfect for children looking to develop their skill sets in a fun and exciting environment of play. You can register at www.seahawksflagfootball.com.

Athletes participating in the Seattle Seahawks Flag Football League will enjoy access to premier playing facilities including Virginia Mason Athletic Center and Lumen Field, exclusive Seahawks and NFL gear and apparel, and appearances from past and present Seahawks players, Seahawks Dancers and fan favorite mascots, Blitz and Boom.

All participants are eligible to compete in NFL FLAG tournament series and play for a chance to participate in the NFL FLAG Championships presented by Subway.

League locations in the Puget Sound area include Seattle, Renton, Kent, Bothell, Tacoma, Sammamish, and Bellevue, including a location in the Tri-Cities in Eastern Washington. Several new locations are also planned for Spring of 2023.

Supporting growth of flag football programs is a key focus of the Seahawks' community engagement initiatives. In 2021, the Seahawks announced a commitment of $250,000 in grant funding over the next five years to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) to support the creation of high school girls flag football programs across the state.

The team also partnered with the WIAA, Nike and NFL FLAG help launch a girls club flag football league in Pierce County, Wash and with Seattle Public Schools. These initiatives are part of a long-term goal of having girls flag adopted as an official sanctioned high school sport in the state of Washington.

"Russell has been instrumental in helping grow the game of flag football in the state of Washington and across the country," said NFL FLAG Executive Director Izell Reese. "We are grateful for his genuine passion and support and know he will continue to play a vital role in the expansion of NFL FLAG as an ambassador."

With more than 1,600 locally operated leagues and over 500,000 youth athletes across all 50 states, NFL FLAG is a fun and accessible non-contact sport for youth athletes. NFL FLAG is the only flag football league where players wear officially licensed NFL gear.
