3 Injury Updates From Pete Carroll's Week 3 Monday Press Conference

Personnel updates from head coach Pete Carroll as the Seahawks head into Week 3 of the regular season.

Pete Carroll shared injury updates on a few Seahawks the day after his team's 12-9 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Here's some of what the Seattle head coach had to say on Monday afternoon from Renton's Virginia Mason Athletic Center.

1. Jimmy Graham and Neiko Thorpe Have Sore Ankles

Jimmy Graham went down in the second quarter of Sunday's win with what looked to be a knee injury. Graham was able to finish the game and Carroll noted postgame that the tight end “banged his knee.” On Monday, however, Carroll clarified that Graham's knee is fine and the injury is actually centered in Graham's ankle.

"He's got a sore ankle," Carroll said. "We've got to figure out what that means. We don't know yet. I can't tell you any more, it's too soon."

Carroll said the setback played a role in the way Graham was utilized against San Francisco.

"It certainly did," Carroll added. "We had some stuff going to him early and it didn't hook up. He was not 100 percent, but he finished and did a great job of doing that, but he was banged up."

Cornerback Neiko Thorpe, meanwhile, left Sunday's game with an ankle injury of his own. Carroll said he's not ruling either player out for this weekend's road trip to Tennessee for a game against the Titans.

"He's got a sore ankle, too. Nothing's broken," Carroll said of Thorpe before adding, "Not ruling either guy out for this weekend at this point with the ankles."

2. Paul Richardson's "Pretty Sore"

Receiver Paul Richardson made the game-winning touchdown catch against San Francisco while playing with a dislocated finger. Richardson had his finger stitched up during the game and while Carroll said postgame that he doesn't expect the injury to linger moving forward, he did note Monday afternoon that Richardson felt "pretty sore" to start Week 3.

"He's pretty sore today, but he gutted it out in the ballgame," Carroll said. "We think by the end of the week he should be in good shape, ready to go."

3. Tyler Lockett "Feeling The Best He's Felt All Year"

Playing in his second game since suffering the leg injury that ended his 2016 season early, receiver Tyler Lockett saw a significant uptick in offensive snaps this week against the 49ers, recording game highs in catches (six) and receiving yards (64). Encouragingly, even with the increased workload, Carroll said Lockett "came out of this game feeling the best he's felt all year."

"He had some good activity, six catches and had some returns, and he came out feeling the strongest and the best he's felt — that's him self-reporting — so that's a great sign," Carroll said. "He's getting over the hump now and he's caught up and not only is he feeling good, but his conditioning is getting there and all that, so we can really rely on going to him. I thought he played really well yesterday and made some big plays for us."

The Seahawks come out victorious for their home opener at CenturyLink Field 12-9 against the 49ers.
