College: Finished his career ranked seventh on Louisville’s all-time sack list with 24. Named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned USA Today second-team All-America honors as a senior in 2013 after notching 14.5 sacks (second in NCAA) and 18.5 TFL. Finished senior campaign with a career-high 42 tackles (33 solo). Finished second on the team with four sacks and led the defensive line with 29 tackles (16 solo) as a junior in 2012. Also had two receptions for two-point conversions. Appeared in 10 games as a sophomore in 2011, making five starts and leading the team with 5.5 sacks.
Personal: Played quarterback at Hardaway (GA) High School where he was selected to the 2009 AAA All-Region second team as a quarter-back, throwing for more than 1,800 yards and 14 touchdowns. Added 227 yards and four touch-downs on the ground. As a standout basketball player, Smith was on the same AAU team as Steelers LB Jarvis Jones. In fact, all five starters on the squad went on to play football for Divison-I schools. Son of Elba Wilson and Marcus Smith, Sr. His mother was a student-athlete at Walter State College, who played point guard for the school’s basketball team. Smith earned his bach-elor’s degree in communications.
