He brings 10 years of coaching experience, with nine coming at the collegiate level; 2018-21 at Rice University and 2013-17 at Stanford.

In his second season leading Rice's running backs in 2021, Picazo helped sixth-year senior Jordan Myers earn honorable mention All-Conference USA honors after leading the team with nine total touchdowns and rank second with 646 all-purpose yards. Myers led the Owls with eight rushing scores and recorded 338 rushing yards on the year,). Former walk-on RB Ari Broussard added 569 yards on 116 carries, including a career-high 186 yards at Charlotte (11/6) that marked the program's second-highest total in conference play since joining C-USA in 2005.

Picazo came to Rice after five seasons (2013-17) at Stanford, first as a student assistant (2013) while completing his co-term degree program and four years (2014-17) as an offensive assistant, working with quarterbacks and wide receivers. Picazo supported the daily operations of the offense as the Cardinal won two Pac-12 titles (2013 and 2015) and appeared in five consecutive bowl games.

While coaching at Stanford in 2017, Picazo participated in a Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Atlanta Falcons during the team's mandatory spring minicamp.

Picazo earned a bachelor's degree in management, science and engineering in 2013 and a master's degree in psychology in 2014. He played quarterback for the Cardinal from 2009-12, appearing in four games.

A native of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Picazo's wife, Kaitlyn, was a three-time national champion in water polo at Stanford.
