NFL 360: I Am Shaquem Griffin

Think back to earlier in the season when the NFL released a feature piece about Seahawks linebacker Shaquem Griffin's road to the National Football League and overcoming challenges he faced from his physical abilities. Do you remember that extremely moving story? We definitely haven't forgotten about it, in fact, nobody did.

NFL Media's feature story titled, I am Shaquem Griffin, has been nominated for a Webby Award in the Sports subcategory of the Social Video category. It competes against four other pieces ranging from organizations such as Bleacher Report and the Minnesota Vikings.

I Am Shaquem Griffin tells the Seahawks linebacker's story of how he made his way to the NFL while dealing with the challenges presented by amniotic band syndrome. Griffin's soundbites are intercut with those of younger athletes who are overcoming physical challenges. Some of the young men and women appear to be dealing with a similar condition to Griffin's. The interviews are complemented by powerful copy subtitled aside each of the athletes.

The Webby Awards were established in 1996 and they are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS). The Webby Awards are said to be "the leading international award honoring excellence on the internet," according to their website.

IADAS is comprised of executive members-- leading web experts, business figures, creative celebrities, visionaries and luminaries—and Associate members, which include former Webby Winners, nominees, and other internet professionals. The Webbys honor excellence in seven major media types including websites, video, advertising, media & PR, social, apps, mobile & voice, games, and podcasts.
