Biography

Originally signed by the Cleveland Browns on July 30, 2011 but was released after training camp on September 3. Did not play football in 2011. Signed by Seattle as a free agent on February 18, 2014. Spent two seasons (2012-13) with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers and was named the 2012 Most Outstanding Rookie after he put up 81 receptions for 1,192 yards and seven touchdowns in his first season. Spent two years at Kentucky (2009-10) after transferring from Los Angeles Harbor Junior College (2007-08) and totaled 93 receptions for 1,279 yards for the Wildcats, including a team-best nine receiving touchdowns in 2010. Attended Dorsey High in Los Angeles where he played tight end and defensive end. Also lettered in basketball. Father, Darell, played football at Lane University and mother, Michelle, played basketball at Texas Christian University. Matthews is a cousin of the late NFL great Reggie White. Majored in community communications and leadership development. Born on October 6, 1989.
