Career

2014: Played in all 16 games (nine starts) and totaled 13 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one fumble recovery and a pass defensed in 2014. Recovered third-quarter fumble at Arizona (9/8) after strip sack by Jerry Attaochu that led to a TD. Had a 13-yard sack to force punt on opening series vs. Seattle (9/14). Teamed with Ricardo
Mathews on 14-yard sack of Colin Kaepernick at San Francisco (12/20); Mathews forced a fumble and Corey Liuget recovered for a TD. Recorded a sack to help force a FG attempt at Kansas City (12/28).

Started the first four games in his debut season with Chargers in 2013 before going on injured reserve. Had a tackle and a half-sack in season opener vs. Houston (9/9). Injured quadriceps vs. Dallas (9/29) and was placed on injured reserve on 10/2.

Started 14 games in his final year with the Colts in 2012, recording 20 tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble and a pass defensed. Injured ankle in first quarter of season opener at Chicago (9/9) and missed the next two games. Sacked Aaron Rodgers vs. Green Bay (10/7) in return from injury. Sacked Ryan Tannehill and
recorded 44th career forced fumble on play vs. Miami (11/4). Recorded one sack in each of the last three regular season games. Had the Colts lone sack in playoff-clinching win at Kansas City (12/23). Started in Wild Card game at Baltimore (1/6/13).

Played in all 16 games (15 starts) and finished with 19 tackles, 8.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 2011. Earned his seventh career Pro Bowl honor (fourth consecutive). Collected a 14-yard sack and forced fumble vs. Cleveland (9/18). Posted season-high two sacks and forced a fumble that was returned 47 yards for TD by Jamaal Anderson vs. Pittsburgh (9/25). Collected 1.5 sacks vs. Kansas City (10/9), giving him 4.5 sacks in the first five games of the season. Recorded a 20-yard sack vs. Carolina (11/27). Tied season high with two sacks, including the 100th of his career at Baltimore (12/11).

In 2010, started all 16 games for the third time in his career and earned his sixth overall and third consecutive Pro Bowl honor. Finished with 25 tackles, 10.0 sacks, five forced fumbles and two passes defensed. Won the Colts Ed Block Courage Award and was named All-AFC by PFW/PFWA after seventh-career double-digit sack season. Posted season-high two sacks and two forced fumbles vs. NY Giants (9/19); first sack-forced fumble returned one yard for TD by Fili Moala; was 21st career multi-sack game and seventh with multiple forced fumbles. Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the fifth time after recording two sacks and a forced fumble vs. Houston (11/1). Notched four tackles in Wild Card game vs. NYJ (1/8/ 11).

Played in 14 games (nine starts) in 2009 and had 31 tackles, 13.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defensed ... named to fifth career Pro Bowl and earned All-Pro honors from the Associated Press (first-team), Sporting News, Sports Illustrated and PFW/PFWA. Named to NFL’s All-Decade Team (2000-09). Tied for third in NFL with 13.5 sacks. Had at least one sack in each of first eight games of season, tying teammate Robert Mathis’ NFL record. Collected season-high two sacks, forced fumble and season-high six QB pressures at Arizona (9/27). First-quarter sack vs. Houston (11/8) marked team-record ninth-straight game (dating to 2008 season finale) with a sack. Matched season high with two sacks vs. NYJ (12/27). Started all three postseason games and recorded sack of Drew Brees in Super Bowl XLIV vs. New Orleans (2/7/10).

Named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time after playing in 15 games (14 starts) and totaling 30 tackles, 10.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in 2008. Had a sack in each of the first two games and added a forced fumble at Minnesota (9/14). Earned AFC Defensive Player of the Month for November for games that included two sacks, a forced fumble and four pressures at Pittsburgh (11/9), two sacks vs. Houston (11/16) and a sack, forced fumble and four pressures at Cleveland (11/30). Sack-forced fumble vs. Browns was returned 37 yards for TD by Robert Mathis. Tied postseason career best with two sacks in Wild Card game at San Diego (1/3/09).

Started nine games in 2007 and collected 34 tackles, 3.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. Recorded a sack and two forced fumbles vs. Denver (9/30). Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career after posting two sacks,  including one for a safety, and two forced fumbles vs. Jacksonville (10/22); safety was Colts first since 2000. Injured foot at San Diego (11/11) and was placed on injured reserve on 11/14.

Started every game as the Colts won Super Bowl XLI after the 2006 season. Finished season with 45 tackles, 5.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and two passes defensed. Earned third career AFC Defensive Player of the Week honor after tying career high with three sacks (fifth time in career) and three forced fumbles (second time in career) vs. Cincinnati (12/18). Collected two sacks and a forced fumble in Wild Card game vs. Kansas City (1/6/07). Had a fumble recovery in Super Bowl XLI victory vs. Chicago (2/4/07).

Selected to his third consecutive Pro Bowl after totaling 39 tackles, 11.0 sacks, six forced fumbles and three passes defensed in 16 games (13 starts) in 2005. Earned All-Pro honors from the Associated Press (first-team), Sporting News and PFW/PFWA. Also selected as the Defensive Player of the Year by Kansas City Committee of 101. Named AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September after recording four sacks in three games, including a season-high three sacks and forced fumble vs. Cleveland (9/25). Notched two sacks and a forced fumble vs. Tennessee (12/4). Had a sack and a pass defensed in Divisional Playoff game vs. Pit (1/15/06).

Led the NFL with a then franchise-record and career-best 16.0 sacks to earn his second straight Pro Bowl honor in 2004. Started all 16 games and finished with 47 tackles, four forced fumbles and three passes defensed. Named an All-Pro by the Associated Press (first-team), Sports Illustrated, Sporting News, College and
Pro Football Newsweekly and PFW/PFWA. Named the NFL Alumni Pass Rusher of Year. Had two sacks each vs. Jax (10/24) and vs. Minnesota (11/8). Earned AFC Defensive Player of the Month honors for December/January for a stretch that included back-to-back three-sack games vs. Tennessee (12/5) and at Houston (12/12), a two-sack game vs. Baltimore (12/19) and one sack vs. San Diego (12/26). Started both playoff games and had a sack in Divisional  Playoff game at New England (1/16/05).

Earned first career Pro Bowl selection after playing in 15 games (13 starts) and compiling 41 tackles, 11.0 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a pass defensed in 2003. Was the Colts first Pro Bowl defensive lineman since 1977. Named an AP All-Pro (second-team) and was chosen All-AFC by PFW/PFWA. Scored first career TD on fumble recovery and 19-yard return at New Orleans (9/28). Earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week after season-high three sacks and two forced fumbles at Miami (11/2). Batted down two-point conversion attempt at Tennessee (12/7) to preserve 29-27 win. Started all three playoff games and had a sack and a forced fumble in Wild Card win vs. Denver (1/4/04).

Named to PFW/PFWA All-Rookie team in 2002 after recording 13.0 sacks, the second-most all-time by a rookie in league history. Also led team with nine forced fumbles and 36 pressures and added 47 tackles, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed in 16 games (eight starts). Notched first career sack at Houston (9/22). Won  AFC Defensive Player of the Week after collecting a sack and three forced fumbles in first career start at Philadelphia (11/10).  Had two sacks for his first career multi-sack game vs. Dallas (11/17). Recorded 12th and 13th sacks and ninth forced fumble in season finale vs. Jacksonville (12/29). Had a sack and seven tackles in playoff debut at NY Jets (1/4/03).

College

Started 22 of 39 career games played at Syracuse and tallied 34.0 sacks (second in school history), 104 tackles,14 forced fumbles, 51 tackles for loss, 43 pressures and six passes defensed.

Earned All-American and All-Big East honors and was named co-Big East Defensive Player of Year as a senior after leading nation with school-record 17.5 sacks.

Tied conference record with four Big East Player of Week awards in 2001.

Set school record with 11 forced fumbles and three recoveries as senior in ‘01. Was a  BCSFootball. com second-team All-American anda first-team All-Big East selection as a junior.

Personal

Attended Bloomfield (CT) High School where he earned All-American and All-Central Connecticut West honors.

Oversees the Dwight Freeney Foundation and raises funds for charities in his home state of Connecticut through events including a celebrity golf classic.

Graduated with Information Studies and Technology degree.
