Hired on March 29, 2016, former NFL cornerback Ricky Manning, Jr. joins Seattle after three years of collegiate coaching.
A Fresno native, he joins the Seahawks after one season at Fresno State and two seasons at Fresno City College (2013-14), and a coaching internship with the Denver Broncos in the summer of 2014.
Manning, Jr. was originally a third-round pick (82nd overall) by the Carolina Panthers in the 2003 NFL Draft, and also played for Chicago and St. Louis. He played in 84 games with 38 starts, totaling 237 tackles, 4.0 sacks, 14 interceptions (returning two for touchdowns), 33 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. He added five postseason interceptions and played in Super Bowls XXXVIII with Carolina and XLI with Chicago.
He started 45 consecutive games for UCLA in college, ranking as the second-longest starting streak in school history. He intercepted 13 passes as a Bruin and was a three-time first-team All-Pac 10 selection.
He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Edison High School, leading his team to a 9-4 record and semifinal playoff appearance in 2012.
Manning, Jr. returned to school, and in 2013, graduated with a degree in business administration & organizational leadership from Fresno Pacific. He is working towards his master's degree at Fresno State.
Born on November 18, 1980, he and his wife, Tosha, have four sons.
