Hired on February 4, 2010, former NFL linebacker Ulbrich joins the Seahawks staff after 10 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.

Ulbrich aided Brian Schneider to turn Seattle’s special teams in to one of the league’s best in 2010.

In their first season, Leon Washington become a second-team AP All-Pro kick returner and helped the team to rank third in the NFL with an average drive start at the 30.2 yard-line. The Seahawks also excelled in kick coverage, as they ranked fifth in the NFL with opponents starting at their own 24.6 yard-line. Kicker Olindo Mare tied for the sixth-longest streak in NFL history with 30 consecutive made field goals and Jon Ryan’s 27:1 inside the 20 to touchback ratio led the league.

Originally selected with the second of two third-round picks (86th overall) out of Hawaii in the 2000 NFL Draft by San Francisco, he played in 120 career games with 75 starts.

He was a six-year starter for the 49ers and tallied a career-high 167 tackles (90 solo) in 2004. He recorded 653 stops (365 solo), 5.5 sacks, two interceptions and 44 special teams tackles in his 10 seasons.

His career came to a close after suffering a concussion in Week 4 of the 2009 season. He was placed on injured reserve and retired after the season.

Ulbrich (pronounced ULL-brick) and his wife, Cristina, have one daughter, Samantha, and two sons, Jax and Jace. He was born on February 17, 1977.
