“It's intimidating. Before the game, raising the 12th Man flag, and then the 12th Man. It's a lot. It gives you the chills." - Julius Jones
About the Qwest Leadership Challenge™ The Seattle Seahawks and Qwest Communications offer the Qwest Leadership Challenge™ as a leadership development program for high school varsity athletes. The program promotes and inspires involvement in charitable causes and rewards community service.
Students in the 2009 and 2010 graduating classes who have participated on a varsity high school athletic team are eligible to participate in the Qwest Leadership Challenge™. Selected schools in four (4) regions of Washington State (Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, Vancouver) have been asked to nominate 10-12 student athletes based on their overall leadership ability and commitment to be involved in the community.
Students will compete for one of two (2) $5,000 and ten (10) $1,000 college scholarships. The scholarships will be awarded based on the students’ exemplary services, leadership and commitment to their communities as demonstrated through their Qwest Leadership Challenge™ project.
Each Qwest Leadership Challenge™ participant is asked to complete a community based leadership service project that includes 40 volunteer hours of combined service to a non-profit or school related cause.
Qwest Leadership Challenge™ Kickoff Community Events All Qwest Leadership Challenge™ student athletes will be invited to participate in a prestigious Qwest Leadership Challenge™ Kick-Off Community Event on May 17, 2008. This one-day event will consist of exercises and activities designed to help the student athletes develop as individuals and as contributing members to a community. Kick-Off Events will be hosted in each Qwest Leadership Challenge™ regional area (Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, Vancouver) in partnership with a local non-profit organization.
