The Seahawks 2013 sack-leader Michael Bennett has signed to a multi-year contract extension with the club.

Renton, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks have signed defensive end Michael Bennett to a multi-year deal, the team announced this afternoon.

Bennett signed with the Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent on March 13, 2013 and led Seattle with 8.5 sacks, playing in all 16 games with three starts. He added 31 tackles (18 solo), a team-leading 25 quarterback hits, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery that was returned for a touchdown. During the team’s Super Bowl championship run, Bennett played in three games with one start, finishing with 11 tackles (six solo), tying Cliff Avril for the team-lead with 1.5 sacks and adding two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Originally signed by Seattle on April 26, 2009 as an undrafted rookie free agent, he was inactive for the first four games of the season before being released on October 10 when Seattle needed to make a transaction to add an offensive lineman to the injured unit.

He was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 12, 2009 and played in 50 games with 28 starts from 2009-2012, including starting all 16 games in 2012 when he posted a team and career-high 9.0 sacks.
Bennett has totaled 145 tackles (102 solo), 23.5 sacks, two passes defensed, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one touchdown in his career.
