SEATTLE and RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) and Q13 FOX (KCPQ) today announced Lexi McKibben of Eatonville High School as the week 10 and final CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week for 2012. Lexi will be recognized on the field at CenturyLink Field during the November 11 game against the New York Jets.
Lexi, a junior at Eatonville, was selected Athlete of the Week based on her dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership and athletic performance. Lexi holds a 3.99 GPA and completed College Prep classes for History and English during her sophomore year. She is Eatonville's National Honor Society President. By the time she graduates, Lexi will have her AA degree from a nearby community college, and just this summer she was nominated to go to Columbia College in New York for a Law & Justice Program that she attended for a week with the Lead America program. Last year, Lexi was voted "Student of the Month" for her CTE class and her Algebra 2 class. Lexi lettered in community service through the United Way by volunteering 171 hours last year and was part of Eatonville's Relay for Life committee. She tutors younger children, has helped with local food drives and is now working towards lettering in her second year of community service. Lexi is a member of the Eatonville volleyball team and last season was voted "Most Improved" by her teammates and coaches.
Over the course of the 2012 season, 10 student-athletes were selected as CenturyLink High School Athlete of Week. In addition to being recognized on the field at a Seahawks game, each student-athlete was also recognized at their school in front of their family, peers and teachers. A $1,000 grant from CenturyLink and the Seahawks was made out to their school's ASB fund, in addition to media recognition, tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks game, and a customized 2012 Nike Seahawks jersey.
"CenturyLink is honored to partner with the Seattle Seahawks and Q13 FOX on this great program," said Sue Anderson, CenturyLink's vice president and general manager for Seattle. "We believe in developing the potential of area student athletes and supporting their efforts within the community, both on and off the field."
The 10 student-athletes held an average GPA of 3.8 and were selected from five different sports - football, cross-country, soccer, swimming and volleyball. The five boys and five girls were selected from 332 nominations and combined to volunteer their community service at 33 locations. Over 12,400 students will benefit from the $10,000 of grants going to the students' school ASB funds.
