Alan Branch: Back at camp; maximizing potential

Posted Jul 29, 2012

Defensive tackle Alan Branch talks about the first two days of Seahawks training camp, as he reconnects with coaches, teammates, and fans.

It was cool coming into the VMAC on Friday. I haven’t been here for a while, so I got to see all of my old teammates. Seeing them again gets you in the mood to start getting it going and knowing that the season is coming up. I was getting excited about that. From there, we heard our training camp schedule with the adjustments to the CBA from last year to this year. Yesterday was mostly just a meeting day.

The message of our first team meeting was the same as always – we’re a young team and we can move fast. The coaches just want to make sure that we can maximize our potential every time we get on the field. Really, in my head I’m thinking that I’m trying to make myself the best I can to help this defense do better. And then along with that, get these young guys coming along because we need to have a deep D-line to last a lot longer during the season.

After meetings on that first day I didn’t make it up to the team hotel until about 10 p.m. because I’ve got my own house up here, so I just waited until the last minute to get in there and check in before curfew. I don’t have a roommate – I was thankful about that. I’ve got my nice, big king-sized bed. I think that’s definitely a veteran thing.

It was cool seeing the fans out there yesterday at our first practice. We’ve got really supportive fans here in Seattle. The 12th Man knows their football. They’re calling out everybody’s names and everything. It was nice to hear my name get called by the fans again – it lets you know that camp is here and the season is about to start. It gets you excited and gets your blood pumping a little bit.
