The Seahawks wide receiver was one of 17 NFL players taking part in the NFL neighborhood MVP program in which entire playgrounds are built in local communities.
Engram helped build a playground and presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Tulalip Boys and Girls Club in Tulalip, Washington.
The program recognizes and celebrates NFL players for their commitment to local communities. Engram was recognized for his support of Sickle Cell Anemia research in the Seattle area. Sickle Cell is a hereditary form of anemia in which the red blood cells become sickle shaped and less able to carry oxygen. For the past two years Engram has hosted a walk for Sickle Cell research at Seattle’s Seward Park and has also spoken to state legislators about the importance of funding the cause.
NFL neighborhood MVP teamed up with a well known home improvement retailer and Kaboom!, a national non-profit to reward 17 players with a playground built in their honor.
At the end of the 2008 season one of the players will be selected as the overall NFL Neighborhood MVP and recognized with a $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice.
