A recap of the activities at Virginia Mason Athletic Center for Dec. 18, when the players returned from their “off” day to begin practicing for the Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals at CenturyLink Field:
WORD OF THE DAY: RESPECT
Yes, respect for the Seahawks. Or, as Aretha Franklin would put it, “R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me.”
For the Seahawks, it’s like Former coach Mike Holmgren always used to say – individual honors are a direct result of team success. And that means the Seahawks’ best-in-the-league 12-2 record is reflected in fan balloting for the Pro Bowl.
Tops at their positions are cornerback
The Seahawks play Arizona at CenturyLink Field on Sunday with a chance to clinch the NFC West title, a first-round bye in the playoffs and home-field advantage throughout the postseason, and Cardinals’ quarterback Carson Palmer cast an unofficial vote for Thomas and Chancellor.
“Probably the two best safeties in the league,” Palmer said during a conference-call interview when asked about the Seahawks’ No. 1-ranked defense.
The players and coaches will cast their votes next week, and the Pro Bowl players will be announced next Friday for the Jan. 26 game in Honolulu.
INJURY REPORT: KAM CHANCELLOR, ZACH MILLER SIT OUT PRACTICE
The first official report of the week, as issued by the team:
|STAT DU JOUR: FOR BOBBY WAGNER, CONSISTENCY IS THE KEY|
Note: 10-plus indicates games with double-digit tackles
Coach Pete Carroll addressed the injury situation, among other things, during his midday Q&A session with the media and Seahawks.com writer and producer Tony Drovetto provides the details.
For the Cardinals:
Did not practice
WR Larry Fitzgerald (concussion)
TE Rob Housler (groin)
S Rashad Johnson (ankle)
QB Carson Palmer (ankle/right elbow)
Limited in practice
CB Justin Bethel (wrist)
RB Andre Ellington (quadriceps)
WR Michael Floyd (ankle)
Palmer was asked about the ankle he sprained in Sunday’s overtime win against the Titans during a conference-call interview Wednesday. “It’s good,” he said. “It just got tweaked a little bit last week. I got a lot of treatment on it yesterday and Monday and it’s feeling a lot better.”
PRACTICE-SQUAD SHUFFLE: ARCETO CLARK, DeWAYNE CHERRINGTON RETURN
|YOU DON'T SAY |
“I want the 12th Man to know that we really appreciate everything they do. They’re a part of this thing. We’re connected to them as well. It just feels good when they’re behind us like that. It just gives us more energy.”
All-Pro free safety Earl Thomas on the team’s fan base that has traveled so well this season and always turns CenturyLink Field into a noise factory
Rookie wide receiver
Clark was originally signed June 4, but was also released on the roster cut to 53 players. He was signed to the practice squad, Sept. 26, only to be released the next day; re-signed Oct. 2, but released Nov. 11. Taylor had been signed last Wednesday.
UP NEXT: “TURNOVER THURSDAY”
The “Competition Wednesday” practice will be followed by another on “Turnover Thursday,” which has become an everyday theme for the Seahawks – especially on game day. They lead the NFL with 22 interceptions and are second in total takeaways (33) and turnover differential (plus-16).
