Wednesday Round-Up: Justin Britt Seahawks pick with best chance to start?

Posted May 14, 2014

A morning link round-up of what's "out there" about your Seattle Seahawks

Good morning, 12s.

Here's a look at what's "out there" for today - Wednesday, May 14 - about your Seattle Seahawks:

Justin Britt - Rookie With The Best Chance To Start?

Terry Blount of ESPN.com believes Seahawks offensive lineman Justin Britt- the second of two picks in the second round of this past weekend's NFL Draft - is the rookie with the best chance to crack Seattle's starting lineup this fall.

Blount writes: "If Seattle's first play from scrimmage is a four-wide formation, maybe [Paul] Richardson is one of the four, but overall, the one guy who has a chance to play as a true starter is Britt.

He is offensive line coach Tom Cable's kind of guy, a tough kid who plays a little nasty at times.

'I went into last season wanting the guys I went against to remember me,' Britt said after the Seahawks drafted him. 'It was my last year, so I wanted to leave a mark in their mind and have them remember me. If nasty is the word you want to use, then I'm nasty.'

Music to the ears of Cable and coach Pete Carroll, who love players with confidence and competitiveness."

Graduation Day Turns Into Draft Day For Jimmy Staten

Seahawks.com Digital Media Reporter Clare Farnsworth caught up with defensive tackle Jimmy Staten, who the Seahawks selected in the fifth round of this past weekend's draft. Staten was in the middle of his college graduation ceremony when he got the call from general manager John Schneider.

“I wouldn’t have it happen any other way,” Staten told Farnsworth of the two milestones occurring on the same day - and at roughly the same time. “First, there was the feeling of completing college, which is what I came to college to do first of all. And then getting a chance to live out my dream as a NFL player, that’s an amazing feeling.”

It's Never Too Early - 2015 Mock Draft 1.0

Chris Burke of SI.com has a (very) early look at the 2015 NFL Draft, mocking the first 32 picks. Burke used Bovada's 2015 Super Bowl odds to determine the draft order, and as such, has the Seahawks holding the final pick in round one. Burke projects USC wide receiver Nelson Agholor to the Seahawks with the pick, saying, "Get ready for the Marqise Lee comparisons. Agholor (6-0, 185) is similarly built to Lee (6-0, 195), a new member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. And it was Agholor who stepped up while Lee limped along with a foot injury last season, to the tune of 56 catches, 918 yards and six touchdowns. Coaches have praised Agholor’s work ethic, and he is a proficient route-runner. Barring any setbacks this season, Agholor should be ready to step in as an early NFL starter."

'NFL 95'

With the League readying for its 95th season, TheMMQB.com is taking a look back at the history of the NFL is a special project dubbed 'NFL 95.' Every Wednesday from May through July, they'll unveil artifacts that tell the story of the NFL. The series kicked off this morning with a look at a ticket from Super Bowl I and story highlighting the work space of NFL Films guru Steve Sabol, whose office has remained "virtually untouched" since his passing in 2012.
