Good morning, 12s.
Here's a look at what's "out there" for today - Tuesday, June 17 - about your Seattle Seahawks:
Minicamp Kicks Off
Seahawks minicamp presented by Tiffany & Co. gets started today at Renton's Virginia Mason Athletic Center. The three-day mandatory camp runs from Tuesday, June 17 to Thursday, June 19, with practice slated for a 1:30 p.m. PT on Tuesday and Wednesday and 11:30 a.m. PT on Thursday. We'll have written stories, videos, and photos from the day's events later this afternoon right here on Seahawks.com.
Kevin Williams, Demitrius Bronson Signed
The Seahawks signed defensive tackle Kevin Williams and running back Demitrius Bronson yesterday afternoon, making room on the 90-man roster by releasing defensive tackle Kenneth Boatright and quarterback Keith Price. The 6-foot-5, 311-pound Williams is a six-time Pro Bowler who spent the past 11 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. Bronson, out of Eastern Washington University, attended the Seahawks' rookie minicamp on a tryout basis this past May.
Williams, a rotational D-lineman who chose to sign in Seattle after entertaining offers from the Vikings and New England Patriots, told ESPN.com's Ben Goessling that coming to a contender was a key factor in his decision process.
"I just think there were better pieces in place in Seattle," Williams told Goessling. "The familiarity with being in Minnesota was there, but a chance to (not) know if they're going to win 10 games or three games (played into it). I wish them luck, but there's no certainty there, and you have a proven quarterback in those two teams (Seattle and New England)."
The All-Seahawks World Cup Team
In honor of World Cup 2014, we put together a "Starting 11" of Seahawks players who we thought have the potential to excel in soccer positions. The team - coached by Pete Carroll - features All-Pro cornerback
The Good Guy
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been selected as Pro Football Writers' 2014 Good Guy Award Winner for his professional style in helping football writers do their jobs. Wilson becomes the 10th Good Guy winner, sixth quarterback and first Seahawk to receive the honor.
Tweet of the Day
In a new addition to our morning Round-Up, we'll be calling out a noteworthy, informative, or just downright entertaining "Tweet of the Day" with Seahawks ties.
Our first "Tweet of the Day" comes from yesterday's World Cup action, where the U.S. emerged victorious in their opening round match against Ghana, 2-1, on an 86th minute header from 21-year-old defender John Brooks. Not to take away from our nation's result, but it was what was in the stands that caught the eye of several Seahawks fans watching on T.V. See if you can spot the large 12 flag draped over the lower level of seats in the photo above. The 12th Man is everywhere.
