Thursday Round-Up: Richard Sherman named NFC Defensive Player of the Month

Posted Oct 3, 2013

A morning link round-up of what's "out there" about your Seattle Seahawks

Good morning, 12th Man.

Here's a look at what's "out there" for today, Thursday, October 3, about your Seattle Seahawks:

Cornerback Richard Sherman has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September. Sherman's string of shutdown performances over the season's first four weeks propelled him into consideration. He's recorded eight total tackles, six passes defensed and two interceptions - one of which he returned 58 yards last week late in the fourth quarter for the game's tying touchdown. It's not only the first honor for Sherman, but the first honor for a Seahawks cornerback in franchise history. We'll hear from the award-winning cornerback when he meets with the media around 12:30 p.m. PT today from Virginia Mason Athletic Center.

Terry Blount of ESPN.com has the story on linebacker Bruce Irvin's return to the club, including comments from linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. who said Irvin they will not wait to get Irvin back in the mix. Blount also passes along notes from wide receiver Doug Baldwin on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, Baldwin's former teammate at Stanford University. And returning the favor, Luck had some nice things to say about his former Cardinal friends - Baldwin and Sherman.

Larry Stone of the Seattle Times comments on just how good the Seahawks defense can be with the return of linebacker Bruce Irvin.

Jayson Jenks of the Seattle Times says the ever-active defensive end Michael Bennett is a rare commodity the Seahawks are taking advantage of.

Former University of Washington Husky and NFL quarterback Hugh Millen breaks down cornerback Richard Sherman's 58-yard pick six last Sunday against the Houston Texans.

Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR AM has his notes from Wednesday, including injury reports from the Seahawks and Colts.

Danny O'Neil of 710Sports.com reads between the lines of head coach Pete Carroll's Monday comments on quarterback Russell Wilson.

NFL.com Around the League editor Gregg Rosenthal puts Russell Wilson at No. 10 in his latest quarterback index.

Chris Burke and Doug Farrar of SI.com hand out their quarter-season awards and the Seahawks' Dan Quinn earns a mention for best defensive coordinator.

Ahead of Sunday's matchup against his former team, Indianapolis Colts backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has a special message on the importance of crowd noise for Colts fans. Even though his message is directed at the opposition, Hasselbeck offers some pretty good tips that even you - the world record-holding 12th Man - can pick up on.

Texans linebacker Brian Cushing was wired for sound last week against the Seahawks and had a few must-see run-ins with running back Marshawn Lynch.

Kicker Steven Hauschka - who earned NFC Special Teams Player of Week 4 yesterday - recently participated in Nordstrom's Men's Shop & GQ Magazine's fall fashion show benefiting the Detlef Schrempf foundation.

The club made a couple of roster moves yesterday, releasing linebacker John Lotulelei and claiming quarterback B.J. Daniels off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers. In addition, defensive end Jameson Konz was released from the team's practice squad and wide receiver Arceto Clark was signed in his place.

Here at Seahawks.com, I pass along several bits of news and injury notes from head coach Pete Carroll's Wednesday press conference.

And Digital Media Reporter Clare Farnsworth puts the focus on the return of linebacker Bruce Irvin, recaps the events surrounding Wednesday in Hawkville, and highlights cornerback Richard Sherman's quarter-season performance.
