Posted Oct 21, 2009

Foundation Awards $131,800 in Grants to Thirteen Grant Recipients This Year

The Jim Mora Count On Me Family Foundation awarded thirteen charitable organizations grants through its fourth annual grant cycle, it was announced today.  The Count On Me Family Foundation, the four-year old charitable foundation of Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Jim Mora and wife, Shannon, supports children in need in Georgia and Washington.  Funds for the grant cycle were raised through the annual fundraiser, the Jim Mora Celebrity Golf Classic, the Lucky Strike Bowling Benefit Bash (held in April 2009 in Seattle), the Super Seattle Steak Out Benefit Bash (held in October 2008 in Atlanta) and generous donations from other individuals.  The Jim Mora Count On Me Family Foundation has granted over $500,000 in money and in-kind donations to charitable organizations in Georgia and Washington over the past four years.

“We are pleased to announce our charity grant recipients this year,” said Shannon Mora, Vice President of the Foundation.  “Thanks to the support of our sponsors and friends of the Foundation, we were able to support charities both in Washington and Georgia in this grant cycle.  It was a difficult decision making process for us, since each of the applicants was very deserving of support, but we focused on funding on the  organizations best aligned with our mission, both continuing to build on the partnerships and programming we have developed over the past few years, and beginning new partnerships that fit into our vision and goals going forward.”

The following thirteen charities received partnership grants this year:  American Association of Adapted Sports Programs (GA), Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities (GA), Boys & Girls Club of Bellevue (WA), Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta (GA), Camp Twin Lakes (GA), Children’s Development Center (WA), Fragile Kids Foundation (GA),  Gwinnett Children’s Shelter (GA), Gwinnett County Special Olympics (GA), Northwest Burn Foundation (WA), Special Olympics Georgia (GA), Special Olympics Washington (WA), and the Virginia Mason Foundation’s Nutrition and Fitness for Life program (WA).   The Foundation is also partnering with many of the applicants on in-kind donations and outreach, bringing the total reach of Foundation efforts to over 11 children’s organizations in Washington, and 12 children’s charities in Georgia.

The Jim Mora Count On Me Family Foundation, created in October 2005, is a 501(c)(3) organization which supports children in need, primarily in three target areas:  children from low socio-economic backgrounds, mentally and physically-challenged children, and children at-risk.  The Foundation affords children the opportunity to realize their potential and dreams by assisting organizations which help to create more stability in their lives, supporting advocacy for children, and supporting channels that allow children to have a voice.
