One day before the start of NFL free agency, the Seahawks' 2013 sack-leader (8.5) re-signed with the defending Super Bowl champions on a multi-year deal.

The team was able to secure what general manager John Schneider called a "top priority" at the NFL Scouting Combine last month. Bennett signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks last season and was set to hit the free-agent market on Tuesday, where his brother - Martellus Bennett, a tight end with the Chicago Bears - was publicly active in his sibling's recruitment. But in the end it was Seattle who retained the rights to one of the NFL's most-coveted pass rushers.

"At the end of the day it was about being comfortable and being in a good situation," Bennett said to a group of reporters on Monday at Virginia Mason Athletic Center after the extension was announced. "Sometimes going to a whole another organization doesn’t work out the way it worked out for me coming here and being with these guys. I saw people take a lot of money and they go to other places and that place isn’t what you thought it would be.

"I know what this place is and I’m familiar with the staff and the players and it makes it a big deal to be here.”

Upon hearing the news, several Seahawks and players from around the League - including Michael's brother Martellus - took to Twitter to share their congratulations for Bennett's new deal with the Seahawks.
