Former Seahawks cornerback Marcus Trufant announced his retirement from the NFL today in front of dozens of family, friends, business partners, former coaches, and former teammates at Renton's Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
Trufant, who grew up just south of team headquarters in Tacoma, Wash. before going on to play at Washington State University, was a first-round draft pick of Seattle back in 2003. After 10 years in the League - all of which came with his hometown 'Hawks, Trufant was ready to officially hang 'em up.
"I think my body was giving out on me a little bit, so it was just one of those things, man," Trufant said of his decision to put football behind him. "I’m staying in shape now, but to try to tackle 230 pound running backs day in and day out, I just think it’s my time to go.
"Just to be home with my family, all of my girls are getting bigger, so it’s just good to be home," Trufant added. "I had a nice run, and I have no complaints.”
Below, check out the social media well wishes Trufant received from former teammates, coaches, and even alma maters - Go Cougs - as he announced his retirement from the NFL.
