The Seahawks return home before embarking on a three-game road trip across America. This week the Seahawks play host to the Detroit Lions. Kickoff is slated for 1:05 p.m. (PT) and the game will be televised on FOX (channel 13 in Seattle) and broadcast on 97.3 FM and on 710 ESPN Radio in Seattle. Calling the game for the fourth time this season on FOX will be Dick Stockton and Charles Davis.
This week’s game marks the third time in seven years the two teams have faced each other, with Seattle winning the previous two contests. The Seahawks lead the all-time series, 6-4, that dates back to Seattle’s inaugural 1976 season. After dropping that initial game, the Seahawks won four straight from 1978-90, before dropping three in a row from 1993-99 and winning the last two contests.
Seattle won the last meeting, 9-6, on Kickoff Weekend on September 10, 2006, at Ford Field in Detroit. A defensive battle, the game featured five fumbles, with each team recovering one each, and Seattle holding Detroit to 38 yards rushing. But in the end, Josh Brown’s 42-yard field goal as time expired proved to be the difference in a low-scoring game.

Seattle opened its season where last season ended; in Detroit, Michigan. The outcome was different as the Seahawks left victorious after a 9-6 win from the foot of Josh Brown. A defensive battle throughout, neither team found the endzone in a game that included five fumbles between the two teams with each team recovering one. Detroit got on the board first as Jason Hanson connected from 44 yards out after Seattle’s opening drive stalled and resulted in a blocked field goal attempt. The Lions blocked their second field goal of the day early in the second, but Brown bounced back and hit from 20 yards out and also was good from 51 yards as time expired to put Seattle up 6-3 at the half. The third quarter featured six punts and early in the fourth quarter, Hanson’s 52-yard attempt landed short. However, Detroit tied the game at 6 on its next possession after a Hanson 37 yard field goal. The teams then exchanged punts and Seattle took over with 3:13 left in the game. Shaun Alexander rushed for 16 yards on two carries and then Darrell Jackson took a Matt Hasselbeck pass along the right sideline, then cut back and reversed field for a 13-yard gain. Three plays later, Maurice Morris gained 17 yards to the Detroit 24 to set up Brown’s 42-yard game-winner as the clock hit 0:00. |
| Home Field Advantage |
| Seahawks fans have become known as the loudest in the NFL and are proud of the role they play in helping the team win on the field. In 2005, Seattle led the NFL in opponent false start penalties at Qwest Field with 24, including 11 versus the N.Y. Giants. In 2006, Seattle once again led the NFL in that category with 26 in their eight home games and posted 18 in 2007. Seattle’s total of 89 since 2005, is tops in the NFL. |
