Seahawks nominated with five other teams for "excellence and outstanding achievement" in sports business.

The Seahawks have been nominated for Sports Business Awards Team of the Year after the organization's 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The award recognizes "excellence and outstanding achievement" in sports business for the March 1, 2013 - Feb. 28, 2014 calendar year. The Seahawks are up against MLB's Boston Red Sox, NHL's Chicago Blackhawks, NBA's Golden State Warriors, MLS' Portland Timbers, and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association for the honor.

The winner will be announced at the seventh annual Sports Business Awards ceremony set to take place on May 21 at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City's Times Square. Sports business executives and staff from Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal/Daily will evaluate and vote for the winner.

In related Sports Business Awards categories, Super Bowl XLVIII itself between the Seahawks and Broncos is up for Sports Event of the Year. And for a couple of local tie-ins, Husky Stadium has been nominated for Sports Facility of the Year and University of Washington's Scott Woodward is in the running for Athletic Director of the Year.

A year ago, MLS' Seattle Sounders FC was in consideration for Team of the Year, but the club ended up losing out to the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder.
