Seahawks to Host Annual Food Drive on Sunday

Posted Nov 3, 2009

Fans are encouraged to bring nonperishable food or cash donations to Sunday's game versus the Lions.

RENTON, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks, News Talk KIRO 97.3 FM, the Seahawks Women’s Association and Northwest Harvest are encouraging fans to bring nonperishable food or cash donations to the Seahawks game versus the Detroit Lions at Qwest Field on November 8.

Volunteers from the Seahawks Women’s Association and Northwest Harvest will be available at all gates and Touchdown City to accept contributions.  The donations assist Northwest Harvest, the only statewide hunger relief organization in Washington.  Each year, about 18 million pounds of food are distributed to approximately 300 food banks and hot meal programs throughout the state.

"With unemployment in the State of Washington at 9%, Northwest Harvest has seen the need for food increase by 13% over the past year,” said Drew Flanders of Northwest Harvest.  “We hope Seahawks fans will help us provide meals to those in need this Sunday.”

Items that are most needed by Northwest Harvest:

General Food Items – canned fruits and vegetables, hot and cold cereals, tuna fish, canned meats, peanut butter, and soup

Whole Meals – chili, stews and hearty soups, pork & beans, raisins, macaroni & cheese

Infant & Baby Foods – baby formula, canned milk, powdered milk, jars of baby food, infant cereal (diapers are also needed)
