Seahawks release defensive tackle Andru Pulu

Signed in May as part of the Seahawks’ rookie free agent class, former Eastern Washington University defensive tackle Andru Pulu was released by the team on Tuesday.

Andru Pulu’s short stay with the Seahawks has ended.

The defensive tackle from Eastern Washington University was released Tuesday. The 6-foot-1, 322-pound Pulu was signed by the Seahawks as an undrafted rookie free agent immediately following May's NFL Draft.

Pulu grew up in Federal Way and was South Puget Sound League 4A co-defensive lineman of the year as a senior at Federal Way High School in 2009. He originally enrolled at the University of Washington, but left for EWU in 2011. After sitting out a season, Pulu started the 2012 and 2013 seasons for the Eagles.

He attended the workout for local players at Virginia Mason Athletic Center in April. Pulu was signed on the final day of the NFL Draft, but the recent addition of six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kevin Williams gave the team 17 defensive linemen.

The move leaves the Seahawks with an open spot on their 90-man roster.
