Seahawks Partner with Nelsen Middle School to Open Fitness Zone.

RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks and Renton School District opened a fitness center at the Nelsen Middle School in Renton today. The new "Seahawks PLAY 60 Fitness Zone" will provide access to quality fitness equipment and programs to students obtain more physical activity each day.

"We are excited to partner with the Renton School District to provide the resources for Nelsen Middle School students to be more active and achieve their goals both on and off the playing field," said Seahawks president Peter McLoughlin.

Nelsen Middle School is one of three schools in the Renton School District participating in the PLAY 60 Challenge, a four-week program that creates an engaging and fun environment in schools and compels students to be physically active for at least 60 minutes every day. Each school that participates in the PLAY 60 Challenge is eligible for a $500 fitness equipment grant each semester. Eighteen schools in Washington State are participating in the program. The grants are funded through the NFL.

"This is so much fun. It is such a motivator. This fitness center opens up a whole new world of opportunities for all of our students," said Nelsen Middle School Assistant Principal Becky Schlosstein. "We have students that are using this that are planning on playing football next year, we have teachers that are using it to get fit and to lose weight and we have community members who are going to be able to come in and use it. It just opens a whole new door for kids."

The "Seahawks PLAY 60 Fitness Zone" will feature 12 treadmills, four elliptical machines, two spin bikes, weight training equipment and free weights.
