Safeco Insurance joins Pete Carroll to Support 'A Better Seattle'

Posted Dec 22, 2011

"A Better Seattle," is a community campaign led by Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll to raise awareness and funds to prevent youth violence.

RENTON, Wash. - Safeco Insurance announced today a $25,000 donation to "A Better Seattle," a community campaign led by Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll to raise awareness and funds to prevent youth violence. A check presentation ceremony will be held prior to the Seahawks versus 49ers game on Dec. 24 at CenturyLink Field.

Safeco's donation will be directed to Alive & Free, a violence-recovery program of the Metrocenter YMCA, which is partnering with A Better Seattle. Alive & Free connects high-risk, gang-influenced youth and young adults with positive support systems through street outreach workers.

"Safeco has a tradition of investing in our communities in ways that improve our future potential, and we are proud to support Alive & Free and A Better Seattle in building a stronger Seattle community," says Safeco Insurance President Mike Hughes. "Alive & Free's proven track record demonstrates the long-term value of advocating on behalf of vulnerable youth."

A Better Seattle campaign will provide funding to hire and deploy professionally trained street outreach workers in Seattle and south King County in partnership with the YMCA and local municipalities. These efforts build upon the model implemented locally by the Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative and LEAP, a project of the Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration.

"Our thanks to Safeco for their generous donation and partnership in this life-changing work," said Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll. "These kids really need our help so they can experience a life beyond the streets and reach their true potential."
