Sherman, the Seahawks’ All-Pro cornerback, dispatched Jeffery, the Chicago Bears’ leading receiver, in a first-round matchup to determine which NFL player will grace the cover of the Madden NFL 15 video game. But then that was supposed to happen, as Sherman was a No. 1 seed and Jeffery was a No. 8 seed. And that’s exactly what did happen, with Sherman generating 73 percent of the votes, to 27 percent for Jeffrey.
Sherman now faces New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, a No. 4 seed, in the second round. If Sherman fares as well against Graham as the Seahawks’ top-rated defense did in two matchups against the Saints last season, then Sherman will face the winner between two other players the Seahawks faced last season – San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly.
Graham caught 86 passes for 1,215 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, leading all tight ends in receptions and receiving yards and the NFL in TD catches. But Graham had three catches for 42 yards and the Saints’ only touchdown in the Seahawks’ 34-7 victory in Week 13, and then had one catch for 8 yards in the Seahawks’ playoff victory over the Saints.
In the other side of the Madden bracket, Panthers QB Cam Newton, the top seed, faces Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles and Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck takes on Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy in the second round.
