“What do you get a man who has everything?” Baldwin responded before that question could even be asked.
And that is Sidney Rice. He is talented and athletic. He has led the Seahawks (last season) and Minnesota Vikings (2009) in receiving. He has been to the Pro Bowl and possesses a lucrative contract. He is as personable as he is professional.
So, what you get a man who already has everything for his birthday?
“I think it would kind of silly to get him anything of materialistic value,” said Baldwin, the Seahawks’ leading receiver as a rookie free agent in 2011. “If I had anything to give him, I would just give him thanks and praise for all that he has helped me do during my career here.
“When I came in, he kind of took me under his wing and has been a mentor to me ever since I’ve been here. So I can’t thank him enough, and I’m incredibly grateful for all that he’s done for me.”
Why would Rice help those who might end up helping themselves to passes that could have gone his way?
“Sidney has been in multiple shoes before,” Baldwin said. “He’s been the underdog. He’s obviously the leader in our (meeting) room. He understands what it takes for a team to be successful, and that’s for everybody to be successful. He takes that to heart. Anything he can give us, he gives up for the betterment of the group.”
