Pete Carroll: Percy Harvin, Brandon Browner could return to practice this week

Posted Dec 4, 2013

News and notes from head coach Pete Carroll's Wednesday press conference as the Seahawks ready for their Week 14 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Head coach Pete Carroll addressed the media this afternoon ahead of the team's 2:15 p.m. PT "Competition Wednesday" practice and preparation for the club's Week 14 contest with the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park.

Wide receiver Percy Harvin (hip), who was listed as doubtful heading into Monday's game against the New Orleans Saints, will do some running today at Virginia Mason Athletic Center, but will not participate in practice. Carroll said how Harvin responds to today's work will determine whether or not he will practice the rest of the week. He added that there is no thought about resting Harvin until the Seahawks begin postseason play.

"He wants to play right now," Carroll said.

Cornerback Brandon Browner "has a chance" to practice on Wednesday and will be managed day-to-day. Carroll said Browner has '"responded tremendously" from the groin injury he suffered back on November 10 against the Atlanta Falcons. The setback originally figured to keep Browner out of the lineup for four to six weeks.

Below are a few more news and notes from Carroll's Wednesday presser:

    • Wide receiver Golden Tate (hip) and linebacker Bruce Irvin (thigh) will be slowed to start the week of practice, but Carroll expects both players to be ready in time for Sunday's game against the Niners.

    • Carroll came away impressed with the play of backup cornerbacks Byron Maxwell and Jeremy Lane, who filled in for Walter Thurmond (suspension) and Browner (groin) on Monday night. "We're really excited because we know they'll be more comfortable with the opportunities and continue to grow," Carroll said.

    • Carroll noted linebacker K.J. Wright played his "best game" on Monday night against the Saints, excelling in coverage against New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham.

    • "It was a really good birthday," Carroll, who celebrated his 62nd birthday on September 15, on what he can draw from the last time his club faced the 49ers.

Digital Media Reporter Clare Farnsworth and Digital Media Host Tony Ventrella will be back with more following today's practice, when offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will be available to the media.
