Head coach Pete Carroll addressed the media this afternoon ahead of the team's 1:45 p.m. PT "Competition Wednesday" practice and preparation for Sunday's Week 4 road contest against the Houston Texans (2-1) at Reliant Stadium.
Carroll announced the signing of free agent center
Carroll said rookie defensive tackle
Several players will be held out of practice Wednesday with the hope of returning later in the week. Topping that list are wide receiver
Below are some more news and notes from Carroll's Wednesday presser:
- Right tackle
Breno Giacominiwill sit out Wednesday's practice with a sore knee. "He got dinged a little bit," Carroll said, referring to how Giacomini came out of the team's Week 3 game against the Jaguars.
- Wide receiver
Percy Harvinis in New York continuing rehab for the hip surgery he had in early August. "He's doing great," Carroll said.
- Carroll expects the Houston Texans to pressure the quarterback more than any team the Seahawks will face all year. That pressure starts with Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, the third-year pro who collected 20.5 sacks and 16 passes defensed a season ago. Watt has registered 3.0 sacks and three passes defensed in three games this season. "He's a fantastic player," Carroll said. "We really have to pay attention to him. And what makes him better are the guys around him."
- Carroll likened the Texans play style to that of the Seahawks, noting their ability to run the football, play sound defense, good special teams, and incorporate an effective play-action passing game.
- Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson left the Texans Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens with a shin injury and did not practice on Wednesday, but Carroll said the Seahawks will prepare as is Johnson will see the field on Sunday. "We need to do some stuff to know where he is at all times," Carroll said of the physical Houston wideout.
Digital Media Reporter Clare Farnsworth and Digital Media Host Tony Ventrella will be back with more following today's practice, when offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will be available to the media.
