Posted Oct 17, 2013

A look at some memorable moments in Seahawks history that occurred on Oct. 17

1976: The Seahawks win the Expansion Bowl with a 13-10 victory over the Buccaneers in Tampa. Linebacker Mike Curtis preserves the win by blocking a field goal with 42 seconds to play. The Seahawks get their points on Jim Zorn’s 24-yard touchdown pass to Sam McCullum and two field goals from John Leypoldt, while first-round draft choice Steve Niehaus sacks Bucs QB Steve Spurrier twice.

1993: Former Washington State kicker Jason Hanson kicks three field goals, Mel Gray returns an interception 95 yards for a touchdown and Herman Moore catches two TD passes as the Detroit Lions hand the Seahawks a 30-10 loss at the Silverdome.

1996: The Seahawks drop a Thursday night game 34-16 to the Chiefs in Kansas City as Marcus Allen runs for two touchdowns. Chris Warren scores on a 50-yard run for the Seahawks.

1999: John Carney kicks a 41-yard field goal on the final play of the game to give the Chargers a 13-10 victory over the Seahawks in San Diego. Carney’s 28-yarder with less than three minutes to play ties the score. The Seahawks intercept Erik Kramer four times, including one by future Hall of Fame tackle Cortez Kennedy.

2004: Former University of Washington running back Corey Dillon runs for 105 yards and two touchdowns, including 9-yarder with less than two minutes to play, to lift the New England Patriots to a 30-20 victory over the Seahawks at Gillette Stadium. 2005: Free safety Ken Hamlin suffers season-ending head injuries during an altercation outside a Seattle club following the team’s 42-10 victory over the Texans. With Hamlin out, Marquand Manuel steps in to start the final 11 regular-season games and finishes third on the team in tackles during the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run. Manuel is now a defensive assistant with the Seahawks.

2010: Marshawn Lynch, in his first game as a Seahawk after being acquired in a bye-week trade with the Buffalo Bills, scores on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter during a 23-20 victory over the Bears in Chicago. Mike Williams catches 10 passes for 123 yards and Jordan Babineaux tackles Jay Cutler in the end zone for a safety.
