1997: Metropolitan King County Council votes 9-3 to approve a new stadium for the Seahawks, a move necessary for Paul Allen to complete his purchase of the team from Ken Behring. That stadium – which has gone by Seahawks Stadium, Qwest Field and now CenturyLink Field – opened in 2002 on the site where the Kingdome once stood.
2011: The Seahawks’ home stadium is renamed CenturyLink Field. The facility had been called Qwest Field since 2004 and was Seahawks Stadium for its first two seasons. As Seahawks president Peter McLoughlin put it that day, “Change causes some consternation, I understand. But we’re really pleased with it, and we’re proud of the sponsorship. It’s great to have such a strong company supporting both the Seahawks and Sounders. We couldn’t be happier.” Added Brian Stading, NW Region president for CenturyLink, “I’m not sure words can really justify or explain just how great a stadium this really is.
