Now we know why. Brooks was signed to the 53-man roster on Saturday, because Bryant and Hill won’t play on Sunday. Bryant, a veteran defensive end, got a concussion in last week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hill, a rookie defensive tackle, has an injured biceps.
To clear a roster spot for Brooks, wide receiver Bryan Walters was released.
The 6-foot-3, 276-pound Brooks has the size to play for Hill in the rotation at the three-technique tackle spot, as well as for Bryant at the five-technique end spot.
Brooks was claimed off waivers in late May and was with the club during training camp and the preseason. He was released Aug. 31 on the cut to 53 players, but signed to the practice squad Sept. 2. Brooks was then released three times and re-signed three times in September, but he has been on the practice squad since Sept. 27.
Walters also began the season on the practice squad, but he was signed to the 53-man roster Oct. 12. Without Walters, the team is down to four wide-outs –
