More than 700 Seahawks season ticket holders piled into the Paul Allen-owned Seattle Cinerama on Monday night for an early screening of the movie Draft Day.
Season ticket holders earned exclusive access to the event via The Membership Club and were joined by former Seahawks cornerback Marcus Trufant, former Seahawks defensive lineman Manu Tuiasosopo, and Sea Gals Tamaria and Melanie, who signed autographs and posed for photos with the fans on hand.
Draft Day, starring Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the NFL Draft and had short segments of the film shot on scene at Renton's Virginia Mason Athletic Center. Costner, who plays the general manager of the Cleveland Browns, attempts to acquire the number one draft pick for his club that just so happens to be held by - yep, you guessed it - your Seattle Seahawks. The film follows the stories of several teams, agents, and NFL hopefuls as they work tirelessly through the taxing day.
Trufant, who was drafted with the 11th overall pick by the Seahawks in 2003, could relate to the film, recalling his own exhausting draft-day experience.
"A crazy day," Trufant said. "Locally here, right down the way in Tacoma, I had a little draft party going on at a bar and grill. The pressure was too much for me, so I was down the street at a little hotel. Me, my mom, my dad, my brothers, and I'm just waiting to be picked, kind of just hanging out, taking it slow.
"As the draft went on on that year, the Minnesota Vikings skipped their pick, so picks kept coming one after another," Trufant continued. "Then low and behold I got that call from Mike Holmgren. He asked me how I was doing, he asked me if I'd like to be a Seahawk, and of course I said yes."
For Trufant, a Tacoma, Wash. native who attended Wilson High School and went on to excel for the Cougars and Washington State University, getting drafted by his hometown 'Hawks was a dream come true.
"There was nothing better," he said. "Home team, college, and high school here. It was just great all the way around."
Draft Day opens in theaters this Friday, April 11.
