Super Bowl XLVIII MVP linebacker and Southern California native
"Being a L.A. native, it's awesome to be here on the field and kind of see the big leagues in person," Smith told MLB.com before Friday's first pitch. "I'm not nervous. I think I'm a pretty good athlete. If I can't throw, we'll find out today. I've never played baseball, so we'll see."
While at the ballpark, Smith found time to chat up Tommy Lasorda, the longtime Dodgers manager (1976-96) who collected two World Series championship rings (1981, 1988) heading the club. Smith used the chance encounter to convince the Dodger great on why he should become a Seahawks fan.
"I've always been a big fan of Pete, and after having a good conversation with Malcolm I think he succeeded!" Lasorda tweeted when asked about his allegiance to the Seahawks on Sunday.
So until professional football returns to the City of Angels, count Lasorda as a new supporter of the Seahawks' blue and green.
