Local Connections Look to Cash In On Super Bowl Wagers

A look at a few of the friendly wagers politicians, businesses, museums, charities, and celebrities from Seattle and Denver have laid out on their respective clubs ahead of Super Bowl XLVIII.

One of the traditions we see year in and year out at Super Bowl time is the exchange of wagers between the respective cities. Over the past two weeks, politicians, businesses, museums, charities, and celebrities from Seattle and Denver have laid pride and local delicacies on the line in the hope that their team comes out victorious on Super Bowl Sunday.

Here are a few for fans to keep an eye on.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray vs. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock

If Seahawks win, Mayor Ed Murray receives:

-Denver Green Chili

-Ball cap, hoodie, and handmade skis from Denver’s Icelantic Skis,

-Signed Broncos item to be auctioned off to benefit Lifelong AIDS Alliance

-Mayor Hancock would receive a Custom thrift shop outfit from Lifelong’s Thrift Store

If Broncos win, Mayor Michael Hancock receives:

-Hand made Seahawks themed road bike from Seattle-based Rodriguez Cycles

-Custom Seahawks colored Chihuly ‘Seaform’ brown glass, to be auctioned to benefit Denver’s Road Home

-Salmon and Dungeness crab

-Mayor Murray will have to wear Broncos pajamas on PJ Day (Thursday 2/6) to raise awareness for Denver’s Road Home, a ten-year plan to end homelessness

Washington Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell vs. Colorado Senators Michael Bennett and Mark Udall

If Seahawks win, Senators Murray and Cantwell receive:

-Smoked Salmon from Nisqually Indian Tribe

-Selection of sauces and honey from Brush Prairie-based Honey Ridge Farms

-12th Man cupcakes from Cupcake Royale

If Broncos win, Senators Bennett and Udall receive:

-Bison from Colorado-based Tony’s Market

-Palisade-grown peaches

-A gift certificate to Elway’s Restaurant

Washington State Senate vs. Colorado State Senate

If Seahawks win, Washington State Senate receives:

A gift basket containing Milk Stout, Dale’s Pale Ale, CD “John Denver’s Greatest Hits,” lift tickets to Vail Ski Resort, Stranahan’s Whiskey, Celestial Seasonings Tea, La Casita Tamales, White Fence Farms items, Rocky Mountain Chocolate, Enstrom’s Candies, Beer from Bristol Brewery, and more.

If Broncos win, Colorado State Senate receives:

Seattle Art Museum vs. Denver Art Museum

If Seahawks win, Seattle Art Museum receives:

-A three-month loan of “The Bronco Buster,” a two-foot bronze sculpture made in 1895 by Frederic Remington that depicts a western cowboy taming a rearing bronco

If Broncos win, Denver Art Museum receives:

-A three-month loan of “Sound of Waves,” a 5x12-foot drawing of an eagle perched by the sea called done on screen panels in 1901 by Japanese artist Tsuji Kako

Sounders FC Defender DeAndre Yedlin vs. Colorado Rapids Defender Shane O’Neill

If Seahawks win, O’Neill must:

-Post a video eating a gooey duck with a Seahawks hat on

If Broncos win, Yedlin must:

-Post a video eating a Rocky Mountain oyster with a Broncos hat on

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport vs. Denver International Airport

Losing city’s airport will have to fly the opposing team’s flag publicly for 24 hours, as well as post a picture of the flag on Facebook

Make a Wish Foundation

The Seattle Foundation and Denver Foundation are having a fundraising competition to see which can raise the most money and tally the highest number of individual donors. Competition is ongoing and ends 11:59 p.m. PT on Super Bowl Sunday, 2/2. All benefits will go to Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington.

Chambers of Commerce

If Seahawks win, Seattle Chamber of Commerce receives:

-Omaha steaks from the Omaha COC (in partnership with Denver COC), due to Manning’s now famous pre-snap audible signal

-Rocky Mountain oysters

If Broncos win, Denver Chamber of Commerce receives:
