What to get
A “Get Well Soon” card would work, or even a miracle cure for the toe injury that is preventing the Pro Bowl left tackle from being where he’s supposed be – anchoring the O-line for the 4-1 Seahawks.
“It’s hard to get Russ something because he’s already got all those little toys guys like,” he said. “You know what? I’d personalize an ankle boot for him.”
That would be the boot that immobilizes the foot with the injured toe, and has become Okung’s constant companion since he was injured in the home opener against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.
“I’d get him a real nice one,” Jeanpierre said. “Something with Okie State on it and something from the state of Texas.”
That’s because Okung is from Houston and played his college ball at Oklahoma State, before the Seahawks made him the sixth pick overall in the 2010 NFL Draft.
“And I’d put B.D.R. 76 on it,” Jeanpierre added of something else he’d include on the personalized birthday boot. “Put that one down – B.D.R. 76.”
That’s B.D.R. for “Big Daddy Russ,” as Okung’s line mates call him; and 76 because it’s Okung uniform number.
