From starter to inactive for rookie Michael Bowie

Posted Jan 19, 2014

Last weekend, rookie Michael Bowie started at left guard in the Seahawks’ playoff game against the Saints. Sunday, he is among the players named inactive for the NFC Championship game against the 49ers.

Rookie Michael Bowie started at left guard last the Seahawks’ divisional playoff game against the New Orleans Saints, in a surprise move. Sunday, Bowie was among the players just named in active for the Seahawks’ NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers at CenturyLink Field, an even more surprising move.

Bowie worked with the starters in practice Wednesday and Thursday, when coach Pete Carroll and offensive line coach Tom Cable talked about how well the rookie had played against the Saints. But Friday, Bowie got his work in practice with the No. 2 line and the scout team that works against the Seahawks’ defense.

Now, he’s inactive. So either James Carpenter or Paul McQuistan will start.

The 49ers, meanwhile, will have cornerback Carlos Rogers for Sunday’s game.

Rogers did not play in the 49ers’ playoff victories over the Packers in Green Bay and Panthers in Carolina because of a hamstring injury. But he said Thursday on his radio show in the Bay Area that he would play against the Seahawks, and Rogers is not among the players just named inactive for the game.
