A recap of the events at Virginia Mason Athletic Center for Aug, 2, when the Seahawks had a mock game during the eighth practice at their training camp presented by Bing:
PLAYS OF THE DAY: EARL THOMAS’ BIG STOP, LUKE WILLSON’S BIG CATCH
Defense: As tempo-setters go, All-Pro free safety
“Definitely,” Thomas said when asked about the stop getting the defense heading in the right direction. “I take pride in trying to be a better tackler. And this is where you get better – in practice.”
“Luke Willson is doing a great job of understanding where he needs to be at the right time,” Wilson said when asked about Willson’s catch. “He has a great sense of looking for the ball. And he’s got unbelievable hands and a lot of speed.
“So he just went up field, put a good move on the guy and made a big-time catch.”
SIDNEY RICE RETURNS: RECEIVER BACK FROM SWITZERLAND AFTER KNEE PROCEDURE
“It was something I setup earlier in the offseason, a little bit after the OTAs,” said Rice, who returned Thursday in time to participate in the team’s walkthrough but did not participate today. “It was a long process, things I had to go through with the doctors over there. So just fortunate that coach (Pete Carroll) gave me the opportunity to go over there and get it done and thankful to my teammates for not making a big deal out of leaving practice.
“I’m grateful to be in a good organization like this to let me go handle that.”

“Just help (keep) the patella tendinitis down a little bit. I’ve had a sore knee for quite a while here.”
Sidney Rice, when asked what he’s hoping to get out of the procedure he just had on his knee.
INJURY REPORT: KAM CHANCELLOR, DOUG BALDWIN SIT OUT
Still sidelined: middle linebacker
ROOKIE WATCH: JORDAN HILL
Thursday, Carroll said the team’s third-round draft choice had a chance to compete for one of the tackle spots in the nickel line used in passing situations. Today, Hill showed why by tipping Wilson’s first third-down pass in the mock game incomplete.
|ROSTER MOVES: EARLY DOUCET AGREES TO TERMS|
Wide receiver Early Doucet has agreed to terms with the Seahawks. He was a third-round draft choice by the division rival Cardinals in 2008 and caught 139 passes for 1,491 yards and seven touchdowns in five seasons before being released in March.
To clear a spot on the 90-man roster for the 6-foot, 212-pound Doucet, rookie defensive end
“When you’re inside, especially at that nose, you’re right on top of the quarterback,” Hill said. “So you see it first when the quarterback is about to throw.”
And Hill was anticipating not only a pass but a quick throw because it was third-and-4.
“I knew I had to get my hands up real quick,” he said. “Most people don’t think I’m going to jump because I’m not as tall (6-1) as a lot of other D-tackles. But I got my hands up there and I timed it up right and I was able to get that one.”
UP NEXT: PLAYERS OFF ON SATURDAY
The players are off on Saturday and then return on Sunday for 10:45 a.m. practice.
Today’s rain-soaked session attracted a crowd of 2,575 fans.
