A recap of the activities at Virginia Mason Athletic Center for Dec. 27, when the Seahawks held their final full practice before Sunday’s regular-season finale against the St. Louis Rams at CenturyLink Field:
WORD OF THE DAY: STATEMENT
As in making one, and that’s what
“Byron has played great football for us,” coach Pete Carroll said after practice. “And I think he’s on kind of a rhythm that we want to take out there in a game like this. There’s no reason to put Walter into that situation after just one week of practice. But Walter is ready to play. If he’s active, he’ll be out there and helping us out.”
Maxwell’s four starts are the first of his career, and the third-year corner has responded with three interceptions, nine passes defensed and 10 tackles.
“It’s really a statement about what Byron Maxwell has done and the way he’s played,” Carroll said. “So we’re thrilled to put him out there again.”
INJURY REPORT: JERMAINE KEARSE WILL BE GAME-DAY DECISION
The end-of-the-week status report, as issued by the team:
|STAT DU JOUR: A VERY SPECIAL EFFORT|
The most-startling statistic of all the impressive things the Seahawks’ No. 5-ranked special teams have done this season is the 25 yards punter
Kearse sat out practice again, but Carroll said the status for the big-play wide receiver will be a game-day decision. Kearse was scheduled to run after practice to test the ankle he injured in last week’s loss to the Cardinals. “We won’t know until game day,” Carroll said. Kearse is fifth on the team with 22 receptions, but his 15.7-yard average leads the club for receivers with more than 10 receptions and he is tied for second in TD catches with four.
Bryant was back after sitting out Tuesday and Thursday and will start against the Rams.
For the Rams:
|YOU DON'T SAY |
“This has been a season of continued challenges, and this is another one. And it’s a great one for us. We’re looking forward to it, excited about it. Awesome to be here at CenturyLink (Field) and these guys are cranked and ready to go.”

RB Daryl Richardson (thigh)
WR Tavon Austin (ankle)
S T.J. McDonald (illness)
DE Chris Long (thigh)
Austin, a rookie who is the Rams’ second-leading receiver and also returns punts, was limited in practice after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday. He did not play last week. Richardson and McDonald didn’t practice Friday.
UP NEXT: FAN APPRECIATION DAY
The Seahawks will salute the loudest fans in the NFL on Sunday, which will be Fan Appreciate Day at CenturyLink Field. Also, Hall of Fame wide receiver Steve Largent and original QB Jim Zorn will sign autographs from 11:30-12:30 in Touchdown City.
