Brandon Browner inactive for opener

With Browner out, Walter Thurmond will start against the Panthers. Byron Maxwell also will play on the right side in the nickel defense, when Thurmond slides inside to cover the slot receiver.


CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Brandon Browner will not play in today’s season opener against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium. The Seahawks’ starting right cornerback is among the players just declared inactive by the team.

Browner, who forced and recovered a fumble to setup the game-winning touchdown in the Seahawks’ 16-12 victory here last October, did not practice Thursday or Friday after injuring his left hamstring in practice on Wednesday.

With Browner out, Walter Thurmond will start against the Panthers. Byron Maxwell also will play on the right side in the nickel defense, when Thurmond slides inside to cover the slot receiver.

The Panthers will be without strong safety Mike Mitchell for today’s season opener against the Seahawks at Bank of America Stadium.

Qunitin Mikell will start for Mitchell, who has been named inactive and was listed as doubtful on Friday after not practicing all week because of a calf injury.

Also inactive is guard Amini Silatolu, who was listed as question because of a hamstring injury. He will be replaced by Travelle Wharton.
