710 ESPN Seattle Audio: Pete Carroll talks divisional-round with "Brock and Danny"

Posted Jan 6, 2014

Pete Carroll discusses the Seahawks' divisional-round matchup with the New Orleans Saints with 710 ESPN Seattle's Brock Huard & Danny O'Neil.

Early Monday, head coach Pete Carroll joined the team's flagship radio station 710 ESPN Seattle for his weekly conversation with Brock Huard and Danny O'Neil.

The Seahawks are set to meet the Saints in the NFC's divisional-round at 1:35 p.m. PT on Saturday at CenturyLink Field, and Carroll said he's been in anticipation of playing a home playoff game all season, noting the club has worked so hard for this opportunity.

"It's a great time," Carroll said. "It's a great opportunity for us. It's great for the northwest. It's great for the longtime fans that have been waiting for these opportunities."

This weekend's opportunity comes after the sixth-seeded Saints topped the third-seeded Eagles on Saturday night in Philadelphia. A last-second field goal from the Saints' Shayne Graham secured a 26-24 win - New Orleans' first road playoff victory in franchise history (1-5).

Saturday's divisional playoff is a rematch of a Week 13 Monday Night Football meeting between the two clubs, when the Seahawks ran away with a 34-7 victory under their own roof. Carroll said his team would be wise to forget that game ever happened, stating it has nothing to do with what's going on now.

"I'm hoping that you see the team that we've seen all along," Carroll said. "That's one of the greatest challenges - staying in character. ... We have to stay in character. That's what's most important.

"If we do that, and the fans do what they do, it'll be a freakin' rousing day on Saturday," Carroll summed. "Let's go."

Below are a few more nuggets from Carroll's Monday conversation with "Brock and Danny":

    • Percy Harvin (hip) participated in the team's two bonus practices during last week's bye, but Carroll would not yet confirm the wide receiver's status for this weekend. "We'll see what happens," he said. "We've got a lot of hard days here this week to see if he can make it through it. The accumulation of the days and the workload, we're going to need to see how that works on him."

    • Linebacker K.J. Wright collected six tackles and a pass defensed in coverage of Saints All-Pro/Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham in Week 13, but Wright has been ruled out of Saturday's contest with a foot injury. "Those plays he made have to be made by somebody else," Carroll said. "The matchups will change because he's not playing." Carroll has said Wright looks "very promising" to return for any games the Seahawks may play after this weekend.

    • "He is so steady. You can't prepare more than he prepares." Carroll, on quarterback Russell Wilson's level of excitement heading into this Saturday's matchup with the Saints.
