710 ESPN Seattle Audio: Pete Carroll talks Week 13 with "Brock and Danny"

Posted Dec 3, 2013

Head coach Pete Carroll reflects on the Seahawks 34-7 win over the New Orleans Saints and updates on the status of wide receiver Percy Harvin.

Early Tuesday, head coach Pete Carroll joined the team's flagship radio station 710 ESPN Seattle for his weekly conversation with Brock Huard and Danny O'Neil - Carroll's only media availability of the day.

"This was a tremendous opportunity for us to play against the best team that we could have played at the time and the guys all hit it just right," Carroll said of last night's 34-7 win over the New Orleans Saints, who entered the contest with a 9-2 record.

In improving to a NFL-best 11-1 - and clinching a playoff berth in the process - Carroll emphasized the Seahawks did not do anything special to shutdown Saints quarterback Drew Brees, or attack Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's aggressive defense.

"I think what was probably most exciting was we just stayed within ourselves and did what we had been doing," Carroll said. "In the course of the week you get challenged by all of the thoughts - you're going to have to do this to stop [Saints tight end] Jimmy Graham, this to stop [Saints running back Darren] Sproles - and we played three-deep zone, played our man-to-man stuff just the way we wanted to do it.

"We didn't have to do anything special," Carroll summed. "We just played football the way we like to, and it was plenty."

Below are a couple more nuggets from Carroll's Tuesday conversation with "Brock and Danny"

    • Carroll said wide receiver Percy Harvin (hip) will have a light day on Wednesday, with Thursday being the day to see if Harvin can get the practice work needed in order to play in Week 14 against the San Francisco 49ers. "He feels really good this morning and we're looking forward to a really good week, we'll see what happens," Carroll said.

    • "Really solid. I mentioned that we had finally accomplished something - that we put ourselves in the playoffs. We had a nice round of golf clap, like you just sunk a nice putt, and I thought that was really fitting because that's not what we're after. They weren't all jacked up about that because they understood that there's more at stake and a lot more out there left for us." - Carroll, on the feeling inside the team's locker room after last night's playoff-clinching win.

    • "We have been preparing for this moment the whole time in our language, in our intent, it's to prepare these championship opportunities - and here it is. It was an opportunity last night, it's an opportunity again this weekend. This chance we have now is to win the division on the road." Carroll, on what he'll tell his team as they start to achieve some of the preseason goals they laid out.
