12 Seahawks Anthems for NFC Championship Weekend

Posted Jan 16, 2014

These 12 Seahawks anthems are sure to power you through the rest of your work week as you ready for Sunday's NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers at CenturyLink Field.

Music is my time machine.

That's a lyric from Eminem's "Cinderella Man" - a song off of his 2010 album Recovery.

I'm not sure what the lyric means to Marshall Mathers - and you're free to interpret it as you wish - but to me, the meaning is simple.

When you hear a song you like, it sticks with you. A good song will stick with you so much that if you were to hear that same song again one month, one year, or one decade down the road, it would take you back to the time when that song was most prominent in your life. The effect amplifies when that song is tied to a particularly noteworthy event, like a birthday, a wedding, or for the sake of this article - a sporting event.

Music is my time machine.

In my first season with the Seahawks back in 2010, I worked as an intern in the team's public relations department. After Seattle exited the playoffs following a divisional-round loss to the Bears in Chicago, I volunteered as a PR assistant at Super Bowl XLV between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers in Dallas, Texas.

The song "Black and Yellow" by Pittsburgh-located rapper Wiz Khalifa had come out earlier that season, and despite its Terrible-Towel roots, I was a fan of the track. Needless to say, with the black-and-yellow dressed Steelers in the big game it was played literally everywhere that February.

When I hear "Black and Yellow" now, it immediately takes me back to North Texas - to the 12-hour work days on radio row, to the circus-like festivities of NFL media day, to the halftime performance from the Black Eyed Peas, and to the 31-25 victory by Green Bay.

Music is my time machine.

With the Seahawks set to face off against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game at 3:30 p.m. PT on Sunday at CenturyLink Field, what song will be your time machine? What song will bring you back to 68,000-plus blue-and-green clad fans screaming at the top of their lungs? What song will bring you back to that local bar, restaurant, or house party where you'll be watching the game?

Don't have one? We're here to help.
