Seahawks Sign Six To 2018 Future Contracts
The Seahawks signed six players to reserve/future contracts Tuesday, all of whom were on the team’s practice squad at the end of the season: tackle Isaiah Battle, guard Willie Beavers, quarterback Trevone Boykin, defensive back Alex Carter, receiver Cyril Grayson Jr. and defensive end Noble Nwachukwu.
Of the six players signed, only Boykin, who spent the 2016 season as Russell Wilson’s backup, has regular-season NFL experience with the Seahawks.
Teams can sign players who are not currently on a 53-man roster to future contracts following the conclusions of their season. Those six players will be part of Seattle’s 2018 90-man roster. The Seahawks have usually used future contracts to retain practice squad players, but in the past they have also found talent from other teams or even outside of the NFL, most notably signing Brandon Browner to a futures deal following the 2010 season.Read
